Zirlott Seafood is a family owned and operated seafood business located on Fowl River in southwest Alabama. Established as Zirlotts Gulf Products in 1987, the company has expanded its focus from solely fresh, head-on shrimp to include frozen/packaged shrimp, fresh picked crabmeat, oysters, and gourmet seafood entrees. Prior to 1987, the family worked independently catching and selling fish, shrimp, crabs, and oysters wholesale.
The names “Zirlott and Johnson” have become synonymous with seafood. Victor and Patricia have worked in seafood-related industries since their childhoods. Vic’s grandfather, Ellis Zirlott, built wooden boats commercially for several snapper fishing companies. Great-grandparents to grand-parents down the line as well as hosts of other relatives of Victor and Patricia have worked in one or another part of the seafood industry. From tonging oysters, to shrimping, to running a crab line or operating a processing plant, the love of the fisheries has been and still is in their blood. Six generations of seafood experience is incorporated into the business.
They have six children and 10 grandchildren. One son is a net fisherman and the other one is a Gulf shrimper. Two daughters work at Zirlott Seafood. One daughter works at a local hospital and the other one is a full time Mom. They still have Sunday dinners with all the family and are steadfast in their faith in God.
